THE ASPEN QUINTET In the last decade the Concertante Sextet has acquired a sheen and polish that few ensembles ever achieve. Comprised of a core of six virtuoso string players, the group performs in varied combinations of instrumentalists.

As solo performers who have won major national and international music competitions they have graced the premier stages of the world from New York's Carnegie Hall to London's Royal Festival Hall to Shanghai's Grand Theatre, performing a wide array of repertoire. As an ensemble, Concertante has performed across America, gathering rave reviews from major publications. They have appeared on Minnesota Public Radio's St. Paul Sunday and also perform regularly at Merkin Hall in New York City as well as being Resident Chamber Music Ensemble at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

JACKSONVILLE SYMPHONY
WITH PAUL GALBRAITH
SUNDAY - 2:00 PM
MARCH 15, 2009

At the final concert of EMMA’s 30th season afternoon series the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra will perform the Concierto de Aranjuez by the Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo, with Paul Galbraith as guitar soloist. Mr. Galbraith is unique since he plays an eight-string guitar instead of the usual six-string, an instrument which he designed himself, collaborating with David Rubio, one of the world’s great instrument builders.

The concert will also include the Symphony No. 3, the “Scottish”, by Felix Mendelssohn. Founded in 1949, Jacksonville’s symphony is one of Florida’s longest-standing orchestras. It has performed twice at Carnegie Hall, most recently in 1998, and has played host to some of the most renowned artists of the past century, including Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Arthur Fiedler, Victor Borge, Luciano Pavarotti, Kathleen Battle, Marilyn Horne and Mstislav Rostropovich.
