Title of Presentation – Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas: Seminal Works for Unaccompanied Violin. Megan will discuss some of the history of Bach’s 6 works for solo violin, perform examples from Sonata No. 1, and then present an in-depth discussion and complete performance of Partita No. 2, which contains the famous Chaconne.
Violinist Megan Sahely performs regularly as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra member across the southeastern United States. She holds positions with the Tallahassee Symphony, the Pensacola Symphony, and Sinfonia Gulf Coast. From featured recitals in the Jacksonville area to a concert tour of China with the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Ms. Sahely has been heard in many different mediums, receiving high praise along the way. She has performed with the UK Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, in addition to the Ameropa Chamber Music Festival in Prague, Austria in 2010. Ms. Sahely’s recent performances include solo recitals at Florida State University, the Episcopal Center at FSU, and at Ancient City Baptist Church in St. Augustine.
Ms. Sahely graduated from Nease High School in 2007. She earned the Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Music Performance degrees from the University of Kentucky, where she graduated summa cum laude. She earned the Master’s of Music from Florida State University, where she is currently a doctoral candidate in Violin Peformance. A proponent for string education in public schools, she has taught at the John F. Kennedy German-American School in Berlin, Germany, Edythe J. Hayes Middle School, Bryan Station Middle School, as well as her current position as Orchestra Director at Raa Middle School.
Ms. Lineberry plays on an 1873 Honore Derazey violin with a modern Lee Guthrie bow.
