Tommy Bledsoe, Joy D’Elia and Kathe O’Donnelly present a fast-paced, entertaining program of traditional music and dance.
Their music blends old-time string band and bluegrass, with a splash of American folk and original songs.
Tommy’s award-winning picking, singing, storytelling, and dance calling reflect his Appalachian roots and his many years of performing before diverse audiences. He is a two-time Florida Old-Time Banjo Champion, a champion Tennessee Hog Caller and the recipient of the 2022 Stetson Kennedy Foundation Fellow Man – Mother Earth Award.
Joy provides strong harmony singing and a solid bass line to the band. Joy and Tommy are featured on Kentucky Educational Television’s popular series “Telling Tales” and “Old Music for New Ears”. They also wrote, produced, and performed in a holiday special, “Winter-Season of Darkness and Light”.
Kathe joined the band in 2015. She provides strong lead vocals and harmony and plays rhythm guitar. She attributes her guitar and singing style way back to the days of being a girl scout and singing around countless campfires.
Sing along to some tunes and then join in an easily taught square dance or reel to the lively sounds of guitar, fiddle, bass, and banjo.
Words and Music events are held on a semi-monthly basis and are hosted at St. Augustine’s most unique performance venue – The Waterworks.
Special thanks to the City of St. Augustine and the St. Johns Cultural Council. EMMA events are sponsored in part by the St. Johns County Tourist Development Council.
